About Us
In the scorching summer of 2011, while Texas endured its driest year on record and 300 million trees withered in the unrelenting heat, one plant stood unwavering: yaupon. This quiet persistence caught Abianne Falla's attention. While ancient oaks fell and ranchers sold their herds, yaupon thrived, carrying on as it had for millennia—unbothered, resilient, and full of secrets.
This wasn't just another drought-resistant plant. As Abianne discovered, yaupon holds a distinction as remarkable as its resilience: it's the only caffeinated plant native to North America. For thousands of years, Indigenous peoples across the continent knew its power, trading its leaves along routes that stretched from coast to coast. As a member of the Chickasaw Nation, Abianne felt a deep connection to this forgotten wisdom.
What began as curiosity blossomed into craft. Through patient experimentation, Abianne mastered the art of roasting yaupon, coaxing out distinct flavors through green, medium, and dark roasts. In 2013, CatSpring Yaupon was born, named for the Texas soil where our story began.
Today, we tend 1,100 acres of Regenerative Organic Certified yaupon, working in harmony with the land to restore native grasses alongside this wild-hearted plant. Our mission extends beyond crafting exceptional tea—we're stewarding an American legacy, one that's finally being rediscovered. After a decade of steady growth, like the plant itself, yaupon's time has come.
What was once dismissed as an aggressive fence-line dweller is now recognized as a treasure, earning its place among Whole Foods' top trends and inspiring a new generation of craft beverages. But to us, yaupon has always been extraordinary—a testament to the wisdom of staying rooted, growing strong, and thriving exactly where you're planted.
